Mexican food is about picking, mixing, dipping and enjoying your food any way you like it. Nothing sums this up like the mighty Burrito – a soft, warm, flour tortilla tightly wrapped around a hot and hefty handful of meat or veg with rice, refried beans, salsa, sour cream, lettuce or whatever your cravings choose for you. Then there’s the highly-sociable Nacho – the Irresistible tortilla chip that can get a roomful of people dipping in seconds.

Burritos
Burritos have become the go-to Mexican food for an easy-to-carry, easy-to-eat and (thanks to Just Eat) easy-to-order meal. A Burrito is a dish in Mexican and Tex-Mex Cuisine (Texan + Mexican, obvs) that consists of a soft, warm flour-based tortilla wrapped into a closed-ended cylinder that can be crammed with a limitless range of juicy fillings like spicy rice, refried beans, chicken, beef, pork, lettuce, tomato, salsa and mayo. The Breakfast Burrito can house a myriad of breakfasty or brunchy delights such as eggs, cheese, ham, onion, peppers, bacon, potatoes, sausage, avocado, tomato, spinach, olives and (insert your personal favourite here). Or try a Vegetarian Burrito stuffed with Portobello mushrooms and beefsteak tomatoes. The name ‘Burrito’ comes from its Mexican origin and translates to ‘little donkey’ (‘burro’ is donkey in Spanish) because the folded flap resembles a donkey’s ear. (A word in your ear: use Just Eat.)

Chilli Con Carne
Like it hot? Then, let’s Salsa. (The sauce, not the dance.). This legendary Mexican sauce can be any one of several rousing sauces typical of Mexican cuisine – it also goes by the handles of Salsa Fresca, Hot Salsa and Salsa Picante, especially when used as a dip. Often tomato-based, it includes classic ingredients like onions, chillies and herbs. Always piquant, Salas ranges from mild to “Aiiie Carumba!!” And we can’t talk about Mexican food without talking Chilli Con Carne. From the Spanish ‘Chilli’ means ‘chili pepper’ and ‘Carne’ means meat, thus chilli with meat (or, of course, Vegetarian Chilli without). Usually beef, but can be other meats or seafood, with the usual suspect ingredients of peppers, onions, garlic, tomatoes and the iconic Red Kidney Beans.
