The sandwich is such a versatile meal that we propose a toast. (Did someone say TOASTIE?). Well, if you get all hot under the ciabatta about toasted sarnies, here’s how to make the most’er the toaster. The iconic BLT – Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato (where’ the M for Mayo?) – is a classic. As is its close relative the Club Sandwich (hold the bacon, insert the chicken or turkey). Other faves are Tuna Melt, Toasted Bacon, Toasted Sausage and the good ol’ Cheese Toastie, (not to be confused with Welsh Rarebit aka posh cheese on toast). Want really fancy? Et Voila! Le Croque-Monsieur, arguably the most upper crust Ham & Cheese Toasted Sandwich. Known as Tost in Italy and Tosti in Holland, it oozes cheesiness (and hamminess, for that matter). ‘Croque’ means bite – and a Croque-Madame is the same toastie but with a poached or fried egg on top.
