Sushi first appeared in the 2nd century AD and has gone on to take the world by storm. Sushi is beautifully simple and completely unique – basically tiny pieces of cold fish, seafood and veg wrapped in rice that’s wrapped in seaweed. Yet, Sushi has hooked us all with its wide variety of beautifully cool bites. Maguro Nigiri (Tuna), Saba (Mackerel), Ebi (Prawn), Unagi (Grilled Eel) and Tamago (Omelette) – Japanese Sushi menus have us all spoilt for choice when it comes to healthy tasty treats.

Nigirizushi

Thinking Sushi? Then think Just Eat – it’s the way to get that fresh fish feast in front of your eyes. Fast. The world loves Sushi, but not everyone knows it isn’t actually raw fish – raw fish is simply the most popular ingredient. The name sushi refers to the rice itself, which is seasoned with vinegar. Also, the word ‘sushi’ becomes ‘zushi’ in word combinations. For instance, the classic Nigirizushi are small, hand-pressed mounds of rice with a dab of wasabi topped by various ingredients, like Maguro (Tuna), Hamachi (Yellowtail), Ebi (Prawn) and Tamago (Egg). Soy Sauce is used for dipping, and Wasabi (aka Japanese Horseradish) can be mixed with it (don’t blow your head off). Sashimi

Sushi is the most popular Japanese dish, but there are other tasty options. Sashimi, for instance, is a Japanese delicacy of fresh, thinly-sliced raw fish or meat with Soy Sauce or dips. (Unlike sushi, which includes vinegared rice, with various toppings like fish.) In Japan, most seafood is eaten as sashimi, but it’s also tasty as Beef, Yuba Tofu Skin or Konnyaku (an edible corm). Other dishes from The Land of the Rising Sun that are rising in popularity are Katsu Curry (breaded and fried chicken or pork on white rice doused in silky curry sauce), Teriyaki (a popular dish of chicken or beef topped with a savoury and sweet sauce) and Udon Noodles (thick, wheat-flour noodles in a savoury broth).
