Gimbap

Korean Cuisine offers lots of light, healthy, vegetable and rice-filled dishes made with mouthwatering meat and clever use of seafood. Gimbap (aka Seaweed Rice Rolls) look a lot like Sushi rolls. They’re basically made of Gim (aka a Sheet of Dried Seaweed) and Bap (aka Rice). Geddit? Gim + Bap? The cooked rice and other ingredients like Eggs, Carrot, Danmuji (aka Sweet Radish Pickle), Spinach, Cucumber and Beef are rolled in these dried sheets of Seaweed (aka Laver), then served in bite-sized slices – or is that slice-sized bites? Bibimbap

Another Korean classic is Bibimbap – sometimes written as Bi Bim Bap and sometimes as Bi Bim Bop. Bap? Bop? Either way it’s is a hip-hop Korean White Rice Bowl packed with de-lish ingredients like sliced beefsteak, sautéed spinach and carrots, plus toasted sesame seeds, Soy Sauce, Doenjang (fermented bean paste) and Gochujang (spicy red chilli paste). Finally, a fried (or raw) egg sits on top of this hot dish, before it’s all stirred together thoroughly.
