Whether you’re looking for a quick and easy lunch or a bit of much needed sustenance after a late night out, kebabs are a local favourite for so many reasons, and Glasgow is home to some of the best of the best.
Why Kebabs?
A hearty, filling choice that always packs a big punch, kebabs are a Middle Eastern meal, with origins in Turkish and Persian cuisine, that have inspired so many dishes around the world. While the definition has expanded hugely over time, kebabs tend to involve sliced or diced meat – traditionally lamb, though these days you can also get chicken, beef, goat, fish, veggie, and sometimes even pork kebabs.
In the UK, the two most popular types of kebab are shish kebabs (grilled and served on a skewer) and doner kebabs (cooked on a vertical rotisserie and served in a pita). Whichever your kebab of choice, you can always expect a succulent, rich and flavourful experience.

Doner Kebab
Doner Kebab, you know the one, if you were walking past the shop at midnight you’d drop in, but now, with the Just Eat app, the shop comes to you. The meat – usually lamb, but can be chicken – is slowly roasted on the vertical rotating spit, a cooking process developed from the horizontal rotisseries of the 17th Century Ottoman Empire. The name means ‘turning roast’ and shavings of the succulent grilled meat are served in warm pitta bread, with a salad of chopped tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber, onion, a sprinkling of hot peppers, salad dressing, mayo or a splash of home-made chilli sauce. (Keep a fire extinguisher to hand.)

Shawarma
The kebabs we deliver take inspiration from across the globe. Shawarma (recently mentioned in a certain blockbuster movie) is a Levant dish from the Eastern Med based on the doner kebab of Ottoman Turkey. Originally llamb or mutton, today's shawarma can be chicken, turkey, beef, or veal, cut into thin slices and stacked in a cone-like shape on a vertical rotisserie. Satay is a Southeast Asian kebab made of diced chicken or beef skewered and grilled, then served with spicy dips (be warned, one portion is rarely enough.) Shashlik was originally a skewered lamb or mutton kebab – nowadays often pork or beef. Another Turkish must-try is Kofta Kebab with ground beef and lamb mixed with fresh parsley, onions, garlic and Middle Eastern spices.
